As the name denotes the system of Numerology as we propound was rooted in the Buddhist civilizations in the North Eastern part of the Indian subcontinent. The earliest practitioners were essentially monks attached to the pagodas and monasteries and in those days it was widely thought of that it had an inseparable affinity to the spiritual circles. Its history goes back to the 1st Centuary AD and its innovators are supposed to be Zangpo and Jigme, seers and sages par excellence in the centers of Buddhist religion. Lord Buddha’s antipathy to Astrology and his vehement resistance against the theory of predestination are universally known. These esteemed pioneers of the present system had an insurmountable curiosity to see far beyond the present in human life. They kept Convetional Astrology at arm’s length. Burning the midnight oil they immersed themselves in profound reflections and toiled and moiled, day in day out, to quench their thirst for the supernatural..The result was the rudimentary form of this branch of Occult Sciences which they practised, far and wide, with missionary enthusiasm .The disciples of these great men further forwarded it to posterity.

Shakespeare’s ‘What is there in a name ?A rose by any other name will smell as sweet’sounds captivating in a literary perspective but in the real life situation a name is of unquestionable significance.Especially by years long association, the name may even out do the value of a thing.Without their names even Gods may sound ineffectual and men of eminence will be cast into oblivion. Anagrammatisation of holy names was a usual method among the practioners of Black Arts and Necromancy. The present system has a firmer footing on the popular name of the person whose fortune is put to study and examination. Zangpo and Jigme had used their own existing languages for the purpose of nomenclature reckoning but they themselves had pointed out that the most widely circulated language alone has to be used for this. The ever growing importance of the English Language in the modern world society and its ever rising role as an international lingua franca makes it obligatory for all its practitioners to do all its evaluation on the basis of the English Language.

The astrological significance of this system also stands worthy of special mention. Here there are specific Lagna positions for each personality. So are the Rasis or abodes,Bhavas or functions and over and above the star constellations showering their benediction from the heavens. The concept of Numerological Moolathrikona or Corner Triangle and Veekshana or Aspect are also phenomenal.

Zangpo Jigme Buddhist Nomenclature Astrological Numerology is widely practised under different names in Buddhist,Christian,Islamic and Hindu societies in several parts of the world. The only one authoritative book on this is ‘Sudhodana Tatwa’by Tazi Sonam, which is a recreation of the rudimentary manuscript by Zangpo and Jigme.Tazi Sonam was a venerable monk attached to a monastery in East Bhutan .He had joined the orders following a vision. With a keener acumen he had pursued the uncanny realms of the supernatural. He chanced to hear about the exciting system of nomenclature numerology as practised by Zangpo and Jigme and felt deeply attracted and found the predictions accurate and authentic. He himself felt it imperative to give this branch of Occult Sciences a more vivid shape. So long it had been circulated through word of mouth and he codified and compiled it as ‘Sudhodana Tatwa’.Deep in mind Sonam Tazi had the eager longing to preserve a system that has impeccable efficacy and genuineness. In July 1798 he breathed his last in a monastery at Paro near Thimphu. His fellow monks and later his own disciples popularized ‘SudhodanaTatwa’. At present, except in a few religious centers in Bhutan, it is not available in its original form.We were introduced to this system by a couple of Buddhist monks from Eastern Bhutan who had come as tourists to Trivandrum, capital of Kerala State, India in September 1998. Though much disinclined to come to the lime light ,on our earnest persuasion, they organized demonstration of the system to the teachers and students of eminent academic institutions in the city.
